Indulge yourself with a spot of afternoon tea in the tranquil setting of Down Hall, Essex.
Down Hall has a long history. First owned by poet Matthew Prior in the early 1700s, the Hall changed hands till it ended up in the Selwin estate, remaining there till the lineage ended in 1902. The Hall was used as a sanatorium during the First World War.
Today, the Hall is a four star hotel, conference centre and wedding venue, and the grounds (110 acres in all) is protected by the Essex Wildlife Trust.
