The Manor was built at the end of the 19th century by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild and houses one of the finest collections of French 18th century decorative arts in the world. It is the most complete remaining example of what was known in the late 19th century as ‘le style Rothschild’.
Today, the Manor is also renowned for its garden, which showcases seasonal displays; the aviary, which houses a large collection of exotic birds; and the wine cellars, reflecting the de Rothschild family’s winemaking tradition. The Manor was bequeathed to the National Trust in 1957.
